I’ve lived my whole life near Lake Ontario, and as a kid I spent every summer cottaging on Lake Simcoe. As a result, I’m fascinated with water and boats. It was easy getting into the mind of this character who spends
his days watching ships and imagining the far-off places from which they come and go.
I’m not much of a blues player. I’ve got my few licks I can play in any key and that’s about it. But I fell in love with blues and soul (starting with Ray Charles’ self-titled 1957 debut) in my teens and I’ve always had a part
of me that deeply connects with blues and soul. I wrote this song a long time ago and I’m really happy to have finally recorded it. Listening to Denis’ organ and Mike’s background vocals really make me smile. I even
like my guitar solo - I tried to imagine what a young Keith Richard’s would play – and playing through a late 1960’s National tube amp helped get me “in the zone”.
